Our goals
and how we achieve them

The foundation's purpose is the direct advancement of people in need at home and abroad, for example through scholarships, as well as indirect support through projects. Our central concerns are the advancement of education and vocational training, of international sentiment and solidarity, of tolerance in all areas of culture, and of the idea of international understanding.

In particular, we finance university studies, vocational training or schooling for people who cannot afford an education matching their abilities. We understand support in the broadest sense: it can be granted through scholarships, interest-free loans and one-off payments to recipients in Germany and worldwide, and is intended to contribute to the reputation of Germany and Europe abroad.

What we stand for

We want to contribute to a world in which values count and are lived: equality, tolerance, diversity, equal opportunity, freedom of expression, a democratic society, and international understanding. We want to change lives positively through education and open up opportunities for people in a globalised world.

How we work

Direct contact with our scholarship holders and projects matters to us. It ensures that funds are used purposefully and keeps administrative costs low. All applicants are invited to an interview with the Executive Board, individual need is assessed, and the decision is made jointly.
